Six markers, one very large beach.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI returned to West Wittering three times last week because of its scale. It's a beach that makes man-made things look like afterthoughts. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn the first morning I photographed the markers as objects. By the third morning I saw them as punctuation - small black notes on a very white page.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis study is about how little is needed to hold a vast space. A curve, a line, gradated tones. The Sumi-e tradition teaches that the unpainted space is as important as the brushstroke. The emptiness breathes. I try to bring that same thinking to the shoreline.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSix frames, all made within a few hundred metres of the same tide line.
